Dumb Knee

I hurt my knee about 2 years ago. I don't know how I hurt it, it just started hurting more and more. There were times that I would stand up and the pain would shoot through my knee - buckling it and causing me to stumble. I gradually stopped running. I gradually stopped doing P90X.

After about 18 months of knee pain I finally went to the doctor. The orders were in: I needed an MRI. :Sigh: Okay. The MRI showed a partial tear in my left PCL. I was referred to a specialist who took some x-rays. We decided that we didn't need to do surgery. Instead, I was sent for physical therapy. That was this summer. I still go an average of 2-3 times a week.

I must admit that I Love pt. It's like having a personal trainer several times a week. It's not just knee rehab, it's a full body workout each time I'm there for 60-90 minutes. And now I have pt messages getting mixed in. My knee is getting stronger and stronger.

I still have pain in my knee when it's in any position other than straight up and down. But the pain is so much better than it used to be - and it hasn't buckled out from under me in some time.

My pt has been suggesting that I work out with his wife for a couple of months now. We finally got in touch and worked out for the first time together yesterday. I was nervous to workout with her; she teaches aerobics at one of the health clubs in town and works out a lot on her own. But I thought it would be nice to workout with somebody my age (she's just a couple of weeks younger than me)- that really knew what they were doing. It was also a little intimidating. She is in Great shape - and I'm sure she could wipe the floor with me at any time.

I'm pleased to say - I think I held my own. We worked out for about 90 minutes, with plans to do it again. Very exciting!

The down side? Last week I had a pt message (not a pleasure message), 2 challenging pt workouts, and a total body workout yesterday. Today my triceps and shoulders are super tight and sore, and my quads are really achy. But it feels great! I love the burn, it makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

I'm looking forward to doing it again and hopefully setting up a regular schedule. PT will end with the year, because of insurance. So if I could get a workout partner . . . well, let's just say that would be amazing!
